Secondly, drain all the water in the faucet and make sure that the tap is dry, block the drain, so that nothing, once you have started your project, goes down the drain. Most importantly, you must have the spare parts, which you will use to correct the leak.

With the use of an appropriate screw driver, either a flat head or a common screw , get  to remove the screw at the heart of the handle, this will depend with the type of faucet you have, if you have the two handled one, get to remove each screw from each handle.

Remove the stem and nut with the use of a pair of pliers or an adjustable wrench, then lift up the stem from the faucet. The stem and nut are usually removed by turning them clockwise. Carefully, remove the screw that is holding the washer in its place. Next remove the worn out washer.

This is where the spare parts will come in handy. Lay the new washer along the base, flat part first, then screw it in place, while still holding the washer in place. If you have a double faucet in your tub, get to replace the washer on either side. You have to be careful that, the washer is of the exact fit, otherwise, the leaks will still persist, even after replacing them.

Finally, screw back the stem in place, return the handle back on and screw them in, make sure you do not tighten the screws too tightly, you might end up damaging the handles or the screws.

You can now turn on the water supply and your faucet too, in order to see if there are any leaks. If the leaks still persist then it is advised to call a plumber to look into the matter.
