Halloween is just around the corner, and you might be excited about the prospect of decorating your home in a scary, yet fun, style. Unfortunately, if you have been affected by the economic turmoil of the last few years, you might not be able to afford expensive decorations, lights and other items. If this has you thinking that you should skip your holiday decorating, you might want to consider using some great ideas for homemade decorations to make your house look attractive this Halloween. You will find that decorating for special occasions can bring out your creative side while helping you save money.

Halloween occurs each Autumn during the harvest season. The most notable crop to be harvested around this time is the pumpkin, which is a staple of Halloween decorating. Like most people, you probably like to set up a few Jack-O-Lanterns around your home to give it a festive, harvest feel. However, you can do much more with pumpkins than simply carve Jack-O-Lanterns. If you can find several pumpkins of varying sizes, you can stack them on top of each other to form Halloween-themed pillars. Additionally, you can use smaller pumpkins as design accents indoors and out. Doing this adds a splash of color and it gives your home the true feel of the season.

If you want to make your yard the scariest in town, you might want to set up a playful Halloween cemetery to entice trick-or-treaters. If you have Styrofoam packing materials and empty boxes, you can cut them into tombstone shapes, paint them and display them in your front yard. You can have a lot of fun with your family thinking of the various names and dates to apply to the tombstones, also. To make the scene even scarier, you might want to purchase some gauzy, white fabric to drape around your temporarily frightening yard.

If you are looking for ways to add small accents, you can feel free to use broken or dirty items in your décor. These items are probably in your home right now, and they can add to the spookiness of your overall theme. When combined with pumpkins or some fake bugs, they can act as the perfect decorations for the season.

There are many things you can do to make your home festive this Halloween season. The good news is that you do not have to spend a fortune if you decorate using homemade items in your house. These decorations can make your home look incredibly attractive, plus they give you the opportunity to express yourself.
